PonyPlus is Available Now

The Monroe County Transportation Authority, aka Pocono Pony, has a new service in its transit stable: PonyPlus. This on-demand, curb-to-curb service allows anyone to request a shared ride using a smartphone app in two designated service areas in Monroe County.

For $2 per trip, customers can book a ride from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and the PonyPlus app will provide confirmation of the trip or a message to adjust the request based on the availability of vehicles. The service runs in the Tri-Boro Connector area (Delaware Water Gap, East Stroudsburg, and Stroudsburg boroughs) and the Pocono Summit Connector area (Pocono Summit and Mount Pocono Borough).

Riders will book a trip via the PonyPlus app, which is available on the App Store (iOS) and Google Play (Android), and payment is made by using a credit card in the app or giving exact cash fare to the driver. PonyPlus buses will be instantly recognizable by colorful graphics and logos, and drivers have all been vetted by MCTA for the safety of our passengers. All vehicles are ADA accessible and have a secure position for one wheelchair. Passengers traveling with children under age 8 must supply and install the appropriate car seat or booster seat.

I have an East Stroudsburg address, but the app won’t accept it for a trip. What gives? An East Stroudsburg home address doesn’t guarantee that you are within the Tri-Borough Connector service area. The borough is 2.9 square miles; however, the U.S. Postal Service has assigned many locations physically outside the borough with an East Stroudsburg mailing address. For example, Middle Smithfield Elementary School’s address is 5180 Milford Road, East Stroudsburg, suggesting the school is in East Stroudsburg. In reality, the school is northeast of Marshalls Creek and 8 miles away from the East Stroudsburg Municipal Building. This is outside of the PonyPlus service area even though the location is identified by mailing address as being in East Stroudsburg.
Do I have to book the trip a day ahead of time? You can if you want, but PonyPlus is an on-demand service. As long as you schedule a trip within one of the zones during our service hours, you can book a trip.
