Flex Connect is open to the public, so anyone can ride!

The Flex Connect is a weekday service with selected stops. A reservation is needed, prior to date of trip. The Orange Flex service connects to the Red and Blue Routes at the Giant in Bartonsville. The Violet and Yellow Flex service connects to the Red Route at Eagle Valley and the Stroud Mall. Use the timetables for transfer details.

How to Use the Flex Connect

It's As Easy As 1 - 2 - 3!

Step 1: Register and Reseve Your Ride

Registration is easy and can be done at the same time you need to make a reservation. Call (570) 839-8210 x 1 to speak with a representative between 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM Monday through Friday, by noon the business day before you want to travel. They will help you register and take your reservation.

Other things to note:

Car seats must be provided by the passenger.

The trip will be confirmed based on seat(s) and / or time availability. Reserving multi-legged trips is possible based on availability.

To register and reserve your ride, please be ready with the following information:

  • your full name
  • the designated stops you want to be picked up and dropped off at
  • your mailing address
  • the date / time you need to be at the drop off designated stop
  • any mobility aid you use
  • any other passengers who will be traveling with you (cost may be different if they are a senior, student, etc.)

Step 2: Get Ready to Ride

The afternoon of the day before your trip you will get an automated call with the time to be at the stop. Arrive at your selected stop 15 minutes prior to time provided in the call. You can call MCTA to verify your pickup time or provide any cancellations.

Step 3: GO!

When your bus arrives, pay the bus driver the exact fare. When traveling on the Flex Connect, the exact fare for the trip you are taking is due. You will share the ride with other passengers and likely pick up more before you reach your destination.

FAQ's Frequently Asked Questions.

Riders can travel between designated stops on Flex Connect. Riders must make a reservation to travel between any designated stop within a Flex Connect zone during service hours. The trip must start within the posted hours of service of the Flex Connect route hours. Riders must make a reservation for their trip at least one business day (by 12:00 noon) and no more than 14 days prior to travel.

Riders can be picked up and dropped off at any of the Flex Connect designated stops within the defined Flex Connect zone and be brought to one of the Flex Connect transfer locations where they can transfer to the MCTA fixed route that serves that transfer location. Transfers are free.

Connections back from the Fixed Route can be made with a transfer slip to a color coded (orange, violet or yellow) Flex Connect designated stop inside the Flex Connect zone but, riders must have a previously booked reservation on Flex Connect to be picked up at the transfer point by a Flex Connect vehicle to complete that trip with the transfer slip.

To use Flex Connect service, riders must make a reservation at least one day in advance (by 12:00 noon) and no more than 14 days in advance, by calling (570) 839-6282. Reservation agents are available to take your reservation Monday–Friday 8:00AM – 4:30PM.

Designated stops are clearly marked in the Flex Connect zone with a Flex Connect logo. This spot is where the passenger must be waiting for their ride. Flex Connect designated stops are as follows:

      Flex-Connect Orange- West End (Orange Route open map).Designated stops are Allegheny & 115 Effort, Kinsley’s Shop Rite, BK Plaza Brodheadsville, Burnley, DMV & Giant Bartonsville with transfer connections to the Blue Route & Red Route at Giant.
      Flex-Connect Violet (Violet Route open map). Designated stops are Coordinated Health (505 Independence Rd), Plaza Court Med Center, LVHN E. Stroudsburg, Eagles Glen Mall, Roosevelt & Mill Creek, Besecker’s Diner (5th Street), Penn Square (Phillips St.), BK Stroud Mall with transfer connections to/from the Red Route at BK Stroud Mall & Eagles Glen.
      Flex-Connect Yellow (Yellow Route open map). Designated stops are Price Chopper Marshalls Creek & Eagles Glen Mall with transfer connections to Red Route at Eagles Glen Mall.

Flex Connect is a public transit service provided by MCTA which is designed to meet mobility needs in the more rural communities of Monroe County in the most efficient way. Flex Connect service allows passengers to travel to/from designated stops in a Flex Connect zone. Each Flex Connect zone includes one or more locations at which riders can transfer to or from an MCTA Fixed Route bus.

MCTA Flex Connect is open to the general public and you do not need to meet any eligibility requirements; however, discounts may apply for qualified riders. All children must travel accompanied by an adult. You will need to provide your name and a phone number to make a reservation for the Flex Connect service. This information will be used to schedule your trip.

Flex Connect is operated using MCTA Shared Ride vehicles. These are small transit vehicles which accommodate approximately 16 passengers. Flex Connect is a new service, so there will be other passengers on the vehicle. Please note that Flex Connect vehicles are not equipped with bike racks. Child car/booster seat laws apply on all Flex Connect vehicles. Riders must supply their own car seat when needed.

Flex Connect vehicles will arrive within a pick-up window of + or – 15 minutes of the pick-up time. Riders should be ready for pick-up at any time within that window. If a Flex Connect vehicle arrives within the window, the driver will wait for the rider for 5 minutes and will depart if the rider is not boarded within the 5-minute period.

Flex Connect is a designated stop service. That is, when being picked up for a Flex Connect trip, the passenger must be waiting for the vehicle at the designated Flex Connect stop in plain sight of the driver.

The Flex Connect vehicle will not wait for passengers if they are not visible at the designated stop. If the passenger is not visible and prepared to board, it will be considered a “no-show”. MCTA has a no-show policy for its reservation-based services which dictates sanctions for repeat violators of the no-show policy.

Yes. Reservations are required for ALL Flex-Connect rides.

Riders must call MCTA at (570) 839-6282 to make a reservation for their Flex Connect trip at least one business day in advance (the day prior to the date of your trip, or the previous Friday for Monday trips). Please be ready to tell the reservation agent the designated stops where you will be traveling from and to. If you are planning to transfer to or from an MCTA Fixed Route bus, request a free transfer from the driver. You’ll need the transfer slip to board the Fixed Route bus or the Flex Connect vehicle upon returning from a Fixed Route. If you don’t have a transfer slip from the Fixed Route bus for your return trip on Flex Connect you will have to pay cash for the trip. Reservations must be made Monday – Friday 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM.

Reservations can be cancelled up to two (2) hours prior to the scheduled pick up by calling (570) 839-6282.

Passengers making daily trips can arrange for a standing reservation on Flex Connect, which means that the passenger can make their reservation just one time and their trip will be auto-generated and provided unless the passenger notifies MCTA that they will not be making their trip on a given day.

If a passenger does not notify MCTA that they will not be making their reserved Flex Connect trip within two hours of the scheduled pick up time, it will be considered a “no-show”. MCTA has a no-show policy for its reservation-based services which dictates sanctions for repeat violators of the no-show policy.

You will be asked for your pick up and departure times when you make your reservation for Flex Connect. You will receive a phone call the night prior to your trip confirming the pick-up and return trip times.

All trips for all passengers are $1 when boarding the Flex Connect bus. A free transfer is issued to the Red or Blue Route. A free transfer can be used if coming from the Red or Blue Routes. Please have exact change, drivers cannot make change.
