Applying for Shared Ride Programs: All Shared Ride programs have individual eligibility requirements. Though a consumer may be eligible for more than one program they must apply for each program individually. A person who qualifies for ADA Complimentary Paratransit will also qualify for Rural Transportation for Persons with Disabilities but must complete the application process for both programs. Scheduling Shared Ride Trips: All Shared Ride programs operate on a reservation basis. All in-county trips must be reserved at least 2 business days in advance. All out of county trips must be reserved at least 2 days, but preferrably 3 business days in advance. The Shared Ride reservation department is available Monday through Friday between 6:00 AM and 4:30 PM at (570) 839-8210.
Definition of Terms
Disability is defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act as, "with respect to an individual, a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more of the major life activities of such individual; a record of such an impairment; or being regarded as having such an impairment." Major Life Activities is regarded as "functions such as caring for one's self, performing manual tasks, walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, breathing, learning and work." Escorts / Personal Care Attendant is regarded as "a person providing service to the eligible individual." Companions / Family / Friends is regarded as "a person accompanying the individual, and is not a personal care attendant, unless the family or friend registered is acting in the capacity of a personal care attendant." All individuals 'accopanying' ADA paratransit eligible riders must have the same origin and destination as the eligible individual.
