If you are a senior citizen, age 65 or older and live more than 1/4 mile from our public fixed route, Shared Ride may be an option for you. Shared Ride serves many seniors throughout Monroe County who live in outerlying areas or travel to areas where public transit is not accessible.
Getting Started:
To ride Shared Ride, all riders must first be enrolled in our program. Once enrolled, Shared Ride operates on a reservation basis.
How to Enroll:
To enroll in the Shared Ride Program, you may phone our office at 570-839-6282 to request an application, or you may download it from this page. We apologize that we are unable to accept your application electronically at this time. Please return your completed and signed application to MCTA; "Pocono Pony," PO Box 339, Scotrun, PA 18355.
Because this program is designated for seniors age 65 and older, proof of age is required. The following documents are acceptable means of age verification:
- Driver's License
- PACE Card
- Birth Certificate
- Baptismal Certificate
- Passport/Naturalization papers
- Armed Forces Discharge papers
- Statement of age from the Social Security Administration.
Please choose one of the age verifications listed above and attach a photo copy to your application. Your application can not be processed without verification of your age. Applications are normally processed within 72 hours from the point we receive it.
Once registered, reservations can be made up to 12:00 noon, the business day prior to service.

Subsidized Fares:
Funding for this program is provided through the Pennsylvania State Lottery and the Monroe County Office on Aging. This program significantly reduces the cost of transportation for seniors living in rural areas through out Monroe County .
Subsidized Fares for persons registered with the Shared Ride Senior Program:
0-4 miles $ . 75 one way
4.1 miles + $1.25 one way
North/South loop $2.50 one way for medical trips, $5.25 for non medical trips.
Areas Served:
All areas within Monroe County (with the exception of the West End Region) are served Monday through Friday between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm.
As of Dec. 1, 2009, the West End Region will increase its service to Monday through Friday between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm.
