What is Worker's Express?

Workers Express is a project funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. It is a temporary program meant to help low income clients get to and from work until they are able to find more permanent transportation. The County Assistance Office (CAO) currently screens applicants and refers them to Monroe County Transportation (MCTA). MCTA determines the most appropriate and cost effective service to get you to and from work.

If you would like more information on this progam email us.

Who can use Worker's Express?

Anyone who is working, is a resident of Monroe County, and is determined eligible by the CAO can use the service. The rides are free for the first 30 days only. After that time, you will be responsible for a co-pay, payable to the driver each time you ride. Your co-pay must be presented to the driver before your ride is provided. The amount of your co-pay will be between $2.00 and $4.00 plus any applicable Day Care Stops ($1 each).

Hours of Service:

This program operates seven days a week, and in most cases 24 hours a day.

Where can I go?

Transportation is available throughout Monroe County and approved surrounding areas.

How do I Schedule Service?

Once you are approved by the CAO, you must call MCTA and ask for Worker's Express. They will inform you who will be providing your transportation and time of pick up. MCTA is open Monday thru Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. It is critical that MCTA reviews your needs so they may provide the most cost effective means of transportation. You must call your weekly schedule into MCTA by 12:00 noon, Friday to reserve services for the following week. For last minute changes, contact your transportation provider to see what procedure you must follow.

Pick-up Times:

You are expected to wait at the doorway of the address you have given when scheduling your ride. Be sure you can see and be seen by the driver. The driver can be up to 15 minutes early or 15 minutes late depending upon the pick up time you have been given. Your transportation provider can advise you of your pick up time. Plan your ride accordingly. If your driver is more than 20 minutes late, call your provider immediately.

How do I Register?

To apply, call Monroe County Assistance Office and ask for Worker's Express (570) 424-3030. Don't forget to ask about our vehicle Repair Program too!

Canceling your Ride:

If you need to cancel your ride, do so at least two hours in advance of your scheduled pick-up time by calling your transportation providers. If you miss your ride, contact your provider immediately. If you do not cancel your ride, you will be considered a "no-show". No-Shows can be costly. The first no-show is a verbal/written warning. The second no-show is a $10 fee (due before your next ride) and the third no-show could result in termination from the program.
