Access to Public Transportation is Crucial for People with Disabilities, their Families and Careers, to have the Ability to Participate Fully in Community Life.
Monroe County Transit offers many disability services with fully accessible vehicles by professional drivers with specialized training in the handling of persons with disabilities and their needs.
Whether you require transportation to work, college, shopping, a medical appointment or to attend an event, we can provide transportation to meet most mobility needs.
Programs and Services Offered by our Fixed Route
Half Fare for Riders with Disabilities
The "Half Fare for Riders with Disabilities" program offers a reduced rate to assist qualified persons with their transportation needs throughout our fixed route system. With a "Reduced Fare Indentification Card" or Medicare Card, individuals with disabilities can ride for half fare, $.75 on any public fixed route. Route Deviation Services
Under safe provisions, our fixed route buses may leave their route up to 3/4 of mile for any person whose disability or health condition prevents them from accessing our routes or bus stops. No additional fee is required for this service. The "Half Fare for Riders with Disabilities" may be applied to this service. Advance arrangements are necessary. ADA Complementary Paratransit Services
ADA Complementary Paratransit Services are available to persons with disabilities whose disability or health condition prevents them from using the fixed route system. Paratransit provides alternative transportation for trips with origins and destinations within 3/4 of a mile from any fixed route during fixed route operations. Programs and Services Offered by our Shared Ride
Persons with Disabilities Program
The Persons with Disabilities program provides transportation services on our Shared Ride vehicles to persons with disabilities residing and or traveling in rural areas more than 3/4 of a mile from any of our public fixed routes. This program reduces the fare for eligible individuals lending affordable and accessible transportation to medical appointments, shopping, employment and more. People with disabilities in Monroe County now have more options to more places . In addition to Monroe County, The Persons with Disabilities program helps to fund trips to destinations on our North, South and Pike Loops.
As a long standing supporter of Veterans and their services to our country, we are honored to provide them with transportation to VA Medical Centers in Wilkes-Barre, Allentown and Bangor.
